Hello folks!
It’s been a while. I’ve a few things to say.
First, a big shoutout to those of you who subscribed to the Daily Dispatch - a graf, and graph on the markets everyday - last year. For me, it was a newsletter experiment early on in the pandemic and one that lasted nearly half a year! The switch to remote work and a reorg on my team at the time meant that I had to find ways to stay plugged in and active. Doing the Daily Dispatch introduced me to a new publishing format. While I wasn’t aiming for any big social media wins, I was pleasantly surprised to see my tiny Twitter following double during that period. The value of consistent output shared in public was never made more clearer to me.
Second, I no longer work for Reuters. After 5 years with the Baron, I decided it was time to leverage my existing experience with news, markets, data, design and writing into something new. I’ve just joined Binance as a news editor to help build a news platform/product. It’s exciting times in crypto and web3 - I’m just glad I get to be a part of this in some small way.
All of this brings me to the real news (buried lede alert!) - I’m rebranding this to be my personal newsletter.
Over the past year and a half, I’ve ramped up my information consumption. At the same time, I’ve made a habit of documenting and indexing a lot of stuff across a lot of different topics. But all of this has been in relative isolation. I’ve made a few attempts to share things via my blog, but I feel like the pace of my sharing should at least approach the pace at which I’m consuming. What’s more? I recently did a personality test and one of the parameters I tested on said I’m the type of person that really needs a creative outlet. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from the curious coterie of folks I’ve been following on the Internet lately, it’s this: There is only unlimited upside to learning in public and sharing your work. We can’t do this sort of thing in caves any longer.
So, this is just another step out of my cave. I’ll try to think of a suitable title for this publication as I go forward. The range of information I consume is too broad for me to come up with a definitive name at this point. For now, it’s just my newsletter. The aim is really to show you what I’m reading or learning about, or find cool or interesting. If I can, I will also try to tie it altogether - though I’ll probably reserve more of that kind of synthesis for my blog. (See Robin Sloan on stock and flow).
This is a change from what was before, so I must flag that it’s a good time to decide whether you’d like to unsubscribe or stick around. I’m aiming to publish once a week.
Thanks for reading!
